W’Cup Qualifiers: Osimhen, Lookman, leads charge as Super Eagles face Rwanda

The Nigerian Super Eagles

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will clash with Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, in a decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time on Saturday.

Nigeria enters the match sitting fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, trailing leaders South Africa, who have 16 points following a 3-0 victory over Lesotho on Friday.

Benin follows with 11 points, while Rwanda holds eight points.

A win for Nigeria is imperative to keep their qualification hopes alive, as a loss or draw could jeopardise their chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup.

The Super Eagles have announced their starting XI for the match:

Goalkeeper: Nwabali

Defenders: Aina, Benjamin, Bassey, Bruno

Midfielders: Ndidi (Captain), Onyeka, Iwobi

Forwards: Simon, Lookman, Osimhen

This lineup features a blend of experience and youth, with captain Wilfred Ndidi anchoring the midfield alongside Onyeka and Iwobi.

The attacking trio of Simon, Lookman, and Osimhen will look to break down Rwanda’s defence and secure vital points for Nigeria.

Rwanda, under the guidance of coach Amrouche, will be aiming to make history by qualifying for their first-ever World Cup.

Their disciplined and counter-attacking style poses a significant challenge to the Super Eagles, who must be vigilant throughout the match.

According to PUNCH Online, The outcome of this match is pivotal for Nigeria’s World Cup aspirations.

A victory would not only boost their qualification hopes but also restore confidence in the team as they approach the final stretch of the qualifiers.
