Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, has said that Liverpool’s ability at set-pieces made the difference in their Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
Alexis MacAllister scored the winner in the first half, heading a free-kick past Thibaut Courtois.
Speaking after the game, Alonso admitted that his team struggles to deal with set-pieces and Liverpool took advantage.
“Set pieces are what we concede the most goals from,” Alonso told the media.
“I think it could have been avoided today. They pressed us a lot.”
“They have skilled forwards in executing set pieces and finishing them. They created a lot of chances because we made a lot of mistakes.”
The defeat is the first Madrid have suffered this season in the Champions League, after winning their first three fixtures.
