The Nigerian Army has confirmed that scores of Boko Haram terrorists were killed during a coordinated ambush operation in Borno State, marking another major success in the ongoing counterinsurgency campaign in the North-East.

In a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, and obtained by Lens News, the operation was carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai who intercepted the terrorists attempting to attack military formations along the Gwoza–Bama axis.

According to the statement, the troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun duel, killing several of them while others fled with gunshot wounds. Weapons, motorcycles, and ammunition were recovered during the operation.

“The gallant troops laid a well-coordinated ambush against the terrorists, neutralising scores and recovering a cache of arms and logistics equipment,” the Army spokesman stated.

Lens News gathered that intelligence reports had earlier indicated suspicious movements of terrorists in the area, prompting the troops to act swiftly and decisively.

Residents of nearby communities, including Pulka and Banki, said that they heard heavy gunfire during the encounter but confirmed that the situation has since returned to normal following the successful operation.

Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu commended the troops for their resilience and urged them to sustain the momentum until the insurgency is completely defeated.

Defence analysts say the operation reflects the Army’s renewed tactical focus on intelligence-led ambushes and rapid response strikes to weaken insurgent networks still operating in parts of Borno and Yobe States.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and restoring full peace to the region.
