The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has described terrorist informants as worse than insurgents, accusing them of sabotaging military operations across the country.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi during a media engagement, DHQ’s Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Ismail Gusau, said the military’s efforts are often undermined by locals who leak operational details to terrorists and bandits. According to him, such betrayals reduce the effectiveness of military operations and put soldiers’ lives at risk.
Gusau explained that while troops can achieve about 30 percent success on their own, the remaining progress depends on the cooperation of citizens and communities in affected areas. He warned that continued leaks could reverse security gains already made.
The military spokesman, who was in Kebbi on the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, urged traditional rulers, media practitioners, and residents to support the armed forces. He also appealed to the media to publish stories that motivate troops rather than expose sensitive details that could compromise missions.
DHQ maintained that while insurgents remain a threat, terrorist informants who misdirect soldiers or expose operations are even more dangerous because they empower the enemy from within.
