The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a wanted fugitive from Benin Republic, identified as Sunday Kotin, in Idi Iroko, Ogun State, and handed him over to Beninese authorities.
Lens News learnt that Kotin, who had fled into Nigeria to evade justice, was captured in a covert operation coordinated by Interpol Nigeria and Interpol Benin Republic.
Police spokesman CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Kotin is accused of leading a cross-border gang involved in armed banditry, arms smuggling, cattle rustling and drug trafficking. At least seven members of his gang are already on trial in Benin.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers involved in the arrest, describing it as proof of Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation in fighting organised crime.
Authorities said the fugitive was interrogated before being handed over to Benin Republic’s security agencies in Cotonou.
