The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has paraded 12 suspects in connection with the fatal robbery that claimed the life of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu and her security guard, Barnabas Danlami, while revealing that the weapons used by the gang were sourced from Niger Republic.

At a press briefing held at the FCT Police Command Headquarters in Garki, Abuja, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, said the arrests were the result of a “coordinated, intelligence-driven investigation” launched immediately after the September 29, 2025 attack in the Katampe area.

The suspects, named during the parade, include:

Shamsudeen Hassan; Hassan Isah (22); Abubakar AlKamu aka Abba (27); Sani Sirajo aka Dan Borume (20); Mashkur Jamilu aka Abba (28); Suleiman Badamasi aka Dan-Sule (21); Abdulsalam Saleh aka Na-Durudu; Zaharadeen Muhammad aka Gwaska (23); Musa Adamu aka Musa Hassan (30); Sumayya Mohammed aka Baby (27); Isah Abdulrahman aka Abbati (25); and Musa Umar aka Small (31).

Lens News gathered that, police also disclosed the exhibits recovered from the suspects: One locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, One locally made pistol, One pump-action gun, 36 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, Two live cartridges, Four mobile phones, Two knives, a cutlass, and two flashlights

Hundeyin said investigations showed the weapons were traced to a supplier across the Nigeria–Niger border. He added that the gang had confessed to participating in other armed robberies in Katampe I, Apo, Zuba, and surrounding parts of the FCT.

He also confirmed that Shamsudeen Hassan fired the fatal shot that killed the security guard when he attempted to prevent the robbers from entering the apartment complex.

Further probing revealed that all the suspects hail from Kaduna and Katsina States. Police say effort is underway to dismantle the arms supply route and arrest the cross-border supplier.

This development marks a critical turning point in the case, with law enforcement promising that the suspects will face prosecution, and the broader network supplying arms to criminal gangs will be dismantled.
