Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has declared that the state’s economy has grown from N3.5 trillion to N16 trillion in just six years, positioning it among the fastest-growing economies in Nigeria. He attributed this surge to heavy investment in infrastructure, basic amenities, and deliberate efforts to revive the tourism sector. One striking example is Olumo Rock, which after its renovation is now generating about N20 million every week, a turnaround that has turned the ancient landmark into a steady revenue machine.
Abiodun revealed that the state recently hosted investors from MAG Group in Abeokuta, where they pledged to inject between $1.8 billion and $2.5 billion into Ogun’s hospitality and entertainment landscape. The investment, he said, will deliver Africa’s first Disneyland-style resort, alongside luxury hotels, sprawling water parks, and other leisure facilities designed to make Ogun a global tourism destination.
The governor noted that the move confirms Ogun State’s strength as an investment hub, citing its vast landmass, conducive business climate, and skilled workforce as clear advantages. “We remain committed to sustaining Ogun State as the investment destination of choice and the true gateway to prosperity,” Abiodun said in his post.
If the plans materialize, the project could transform Ogun’s economy further, creating thousands of jobs and driving growth across sectors such as hospitality, retail, transport, and construction. But beyond the promise of revenue, questions remain about how quickly the massive pledge will be executed and what challenges might arise in terms of infrastructure, environmental impact, and local participation.
For now, the announcement has put Ogun on the map with bold ambitions. Whether the state can turn this billion-dollar dream into a lasting reality may be the real test of Abiodun’s legacy.
