The Anambra State branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has issued a 72‑hour ultimatum to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and security agencies to secure the release of Dr. Tochukwu Mbanugo, a consultant neurosurgeon kidnapped on October 30 in Nnewi.

The demand was made public following an emergency meeting by the NMA, which condemned the abduction and lack of communication from the kidnappers.

In a communiqué signed by Dr. Princeston Okam (Chairman) and Dr. Obiaeli Ifeanyi (Secretary), the NMA warned that if the doctor is not freed within the time frame, medical practitioners in Anambra will withdraw services indefinitely.

The association said the ultimatum is necessary to protect the safety and dignity of its members.

The statement added that Dr. Mbanugo was abducted in front of his private hospital in Uruagu, Nnewi, and there has been no contact from his captors.

The group urged the government to act swiftly, insisting that doctors will down tools until their colleague is released.
