Katsina State has allocated N36.8 billion to bolster security measures across the state, according to Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal. Speaking at a press briefing in Katsina on Monday, Lawal detailed the state government’s commitment to tackling insecurity, particularly banditry and kidnapping, which have plagued the region. The funds, disbursed between 2023 and April 2025, have been used to procure surveillance equipment, train security personnel, and provide logistical support to local and federal forces.
The deputy governor highlighted the establishment of community security watch corps and the deployment of advanced technology, including drones, to monitor high-risk areas. He noted that the investment has led to a significant reduction in attacks in several local government areas, though challenges remain. Lawal emphasized ongoing collaboration with federal authorities and neighboring states to ensure a coordinated approach.
The announcement comes amid growing public concern over persistent security threats in Nigeria’s northwest. Lawal assured residents that the government is prioritizing their safety and called for community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. Further details on the breakdown of expenditures are expected to be presented in the state’s upcoming budget review.
