The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly declared that his loyalty lies with anyone who stands behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging Abuja residents to throw their weight behind leaders aligned with the administration.
Wike made the bold statement on Thursday while flagging off Lot 2 of the Water Supply Project in Karu, where he showered praise on the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, and former FCT Senator Philip Aduda.
“The chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do. If he wins again as AMAC chairman, we’ll give him whatever he asks for. I don’t even know the party he belongs to, but I know he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike declared to applause.
He hailed Maikalangu as a “hardworking leader” who has used his government connections to bring development to the people. Wike assured residents that his administration would continue to meet the council boss’s demands if re-elected.
The FCT Minister didn’t spare past governments either. He lashed out at previous administrations for neglecting satellite towns like Karu, especially on basic amenities such as water. Comparing them to Tinubu’s government, Wike said:
“We had governments here for five years, even eight years, yet no one gave you water. Did this government promise you water? Have we not now delivered water?”
Wike told the crowd to hold Tinubu’s administration in high regard, describing the water project as proof that promises made are promises kept.
“You now have a covenant with this government,” he said. “Agreement is agreement. The people of Karu will always remember the government that remembered them.”
