Hamas has reportedly released the second batch of Israeli hostages, handing over 13 additional captives to the Red Cross as part of the ongoing ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. This follows the earlier transfer of seven hostages earlier in the day under the same deal.
The first group had already crossed into Israeli territory and were received by medical teams for initial assessments and reunification with their families. The newly released hostages are understood to be in the custody of the Red Cross, from where they will be transferred to Israeli authorities.
Earlier, Israeli and Hamas negotiators exchanged lists of hostages and prisoners to be freed under the terms of the deal. Under the agreement, Israel is also expected to free over 1,700 Palestinian detainees in return.
The release of this second batch marks a crucial phase in the implementation of the ceasefire, seen by many as a test of commitment from both sides. Observers warn that maintaining momentum and ensuring full compliance will be key to preventing a relapse into conflict.
