Alaafin-Designate Returns from Canada, Set to Arrive in Oyo Today
The Alaafin-designate, Prince Lukman Adelodun Gbadegesin, has concluded his stay in Canada and is expected to arrive in Oyo today, marking a significant step toward his anticipated coronation as the next Alaafin of Oyo.
Sources close to the royal family confirmed that Prince Gbadegesin departed Canada earlier this week and is scheduled to land in Nigeria, with plans to proceed directly to Oyo to prepare for the traditional rites and ceremonies ahead of his official installation.
His return has heightened excitement among residents and stakeholders in Oyo, who have eagerly awaited his presence following the selection process by the Oyomesi, the kingmakers of the Oyo Kingdom.
The 54th Alaafin’s throne has been vacant since the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III in April 2022, and Prince Gbadegesin’s arrival signals progress in the long-awaited succession.
Community leaders and palace officials are reportedly finalizing arrangements to welcome him as he steps into the historic role.
