Edo State Police Command has apprehended two suspects for unlawful possession of firearms during a coordinated bush-combing operation in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who identified the suspects as 30-year-old Julius Omagbogwu and 45-year-old Omika Musa.

According to the statement, the operation was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to rid Edo State of criminal elements and recover illegal firearms.

“On October 31, 2025, at about 08:00hrs, operatives of the Ehor Division, led by CSP Akwaha Steven, in collaboration with local vigilante personnel, embarked on an intensive bush-combing exercise within Egbisi, Equaholor, and Uhi communities,” Ikoedem stated.

The exercise, aimed at flushing out criminal hideouts concealed within the thick bushes, yielded positive results as three single-barrel shotguns were recovered, and the two suspects were arrested for unlawful possession of firearms.

She added that preliminary investigations were underway to trace the origin of the weapons and dismantle any criminal network linked to the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the Divisional Police Officer of Ehor Division and his team, alongside the vigilante groups, for their vigilance and proactive intelligence-gathering, which led to the arrests and recovery.

Agbonika reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and security across the state.

He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and provide useful information that could assist in crime prevention through the command’s official communication channels.
