The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has transformed the state’s health sector with the construction of five new general hospitals and the rehabilitation of over 130 health facilities across the state within three years.
Obidike, who spoke during a media tour of the newly built Solution Trauma Centre in Awka, said the initiative aimed to update residents on the government’s strides and counter misinformation about its health projects.
The new hospitals include Okpoko General Hospital (Ogbaru), Solution Specialist Hospital (Fegge, Onitsha South), Solution Rehabilitation Centre (Nibo, Awka South), Ekwulobia General Hospital (Aguata), and Solution General Hospital (Anaku, Ayamelum).
The commissioner added that several other hospitals, such as Umueri General Hospital, Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital, and the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, have been rehabilitated and equipped with 24-hour solar power. He noted that antenatal care, childbirth, and some surgeries are being provided free of charge.
Obidike praised Soludo’s vision of building a “healthy, digitalised, and liveable Anambra,” describing the reforms as investments for the next generation rather than political gestures.
He emphasized transparency, stating that the ongoing media tour was to show citizens how their taxes were being utilized.
