A Kwara-based photojournalist, Abdullahi Sanni, has been selected to participate in the Youth Artivism Festival on Gender-Based Violence, a national platform bringing together young creative advocates using art and storytelling to promote gender equality and end violence.

Sanni, a fresh Higher National Diploma graduate of Mass Communication from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, is known for his visual storytelling and passion for social change.

During his time on campus, he served as Public Relations Officer of the Mass Communication Department, Co-Convener of the Kwara Poly Campus Press, and Media Assistant to the SUG President.

The photojournalist previously worked as Senior Reporter and Head of News Unit at Sho Pen Online and currently serves as Visual Storyteller in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Communications, where he documents developmental programmes and interventions of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Sanni volunteers as Media Officer for Musty Football Academy and covers health, sports, politics, education, and culture, with particular interest in documenting the heritage of Ilorin Emirate.

Since 2023, his images from the annual Ilorin Emirate Durbar Festival have been featured in top national dailies including Punch, Vanguard, and The Nation.

He also served as an INEC-accredited photojournalist during the 2023 General Elections.

Speaking on his selection, Sanni described the opportunity as a call to use art for social good.

“I believe photography can do more than tell stories. It can inspire empathy, challenge harmful norms, and drive change. Being part of this festival strengthens my resolve to use my lens to advocate for a world free of gender-based violence,” he stated.

The Youth Artivism Festival on GBV, organized by Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, provides a space for young creatives to collaborate, learn, and amplify voices promoting equality, dignity, and justice.

The art exhibition is scheduled to hold at 9am on Thursday, October 30, at Kwara State Banquet Hall opposite Government House.

Sanni’s inclusion underscores his growing influence as a young voice for positive change in Kwara State and beyond.

He tweets via @Sanni_abdul09, is active on Facebook as Abdullahi Sanni, and can be reached at sanniabdullahi0920@gmail.com.
