The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to view skill acquisition as a vital component of their future planning.

Speaking during a recent visit to the Ede Orientation Camp in Osun State, General Nafiu emphasized the importance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme in equipping corps members with practical skills for self-reliance.

General Nafiu stated, “We cannot make startup capital available to all, but with financial literacy, you can build your own capital through your allowances.” He further advised corps members to actively participate in the SAED programme, noting that many of their predecessors who embraced the training have successfully established businesses and become employers of labor.

Lens News gathered that the NYSC Director-General also cautioned corps members against relying solely on the prospect of white-collar jobs, urging them to consider entrepreneurship as a viable alternative. He highlighted that the current economic landscape requires adaptability and proactive planning for the future.

General Nafiu’s visit to the Ede camp aimed to boost the morale of the 2,500 corps members deployed to Osun State, comprising 1,637 from Lagos and 863 from Osun. The NYSC has partnered with various organizations to provide training and support for corps members, ensuring they are well-prepared for life after service.
