President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following allegations of certificate forgery. Nnaji, appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation on October 7, 2025, in a letter expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation. He claimed to have been a target of blackmail by political opponents.
LensNews gathered that, President Tinubu acknowledged Nnaji’s service and wished him well in future endeavors. The resignation follows a report by Premium Times, which revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), disowned Nnaji’s Bachelor of Science degree, stating he did not complete his studies there and was never awarded a certificate. Additionally, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) confirmed that Nnaji’s certificate of national service could not be authenticated.
In his resignation letter, Nnaji expressed that stepping down was a difficult decision but necessary to prevent the allegations from distracting the administration’s focus on national development. He maintained his innocence and readiness to defend himself against any formal charges.
The resignation has sparked discussions about integrity and accountability in public office, with many calling for thorough investigations into the allegations. The presidency has not yet announced a successor to Nnaji.
