Kwara United sack coach following string of losses

Kwara United FC have dismissed head coach Tunde Sanni following a series of disappointing results in both the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Lens News gathered that, the decision came in the aftermath of a 0-1 home loss to Abia Warriors on Matchday 7. That defeat was the tipping point, part of a poor run where the team lost three of their last four matches. Two of those defeats were back-to-back losses to Ghana’s Asante Kotoko in the Confederation Cup.

Sanni, who had earlier steered Kwara United to their first ever President Federation Cup title after a penalty shoot-out win over Abakaliki FC, becomes the first coach to be sacked in the 2025/26 NPFL season.

In response, the club has appointed Ashifat Suleiman, formerly Sanni’s assistant, as interim coach immediately. He is set to lead the team into their next NPFL fixture, an away game against Kano Pillars on Matchday 8.

The home loss to Abia Warriors leaves Kwara United at 10th on the NPFL table with 8 points at this stage of the campaign.
