The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it recovered a total of ₦853 billion as proceeds of crime in the 2023/2024 financial year.
Lens News reports that the recovery includes ₦364.5 billion in cash and $326.5 million in foreign currency, alongside other assets seized during investigations.
The EFCC described the figure as one of its largest in recent years, attributing the success to improved investigations, stronger enforcement strategies, and closer collaboration with financial institutions.
The agency’s disclosure comes at a time when civil society organisations are demanding greater transparency in the management of recovered assets, urging the government to channel such funds into development and social welfare programmes.
