President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday assured Nigerians that the “worst is over,” as the country marked its 65th Independence Anniversary.

Lens News reports that in his national broadcast, Tinubu acknowledged the hardship many citizens are facing due to recent economic reforms but insisted the policies are beginning to produce results.

He cited GDP growth of 4.23% in the second quarter of 2025, which he described as the highest in four years, a drop in inflation to 20.12%, and an increase in external reserves to $42.03 billion, the highest since 2019.

Tinubu also pointed to a ₦330 billion disbursement under social investment programmes to support about eight million vulnerable households.

The president urged Nigerians to remain united, saying the current reforms are not punishment but “necessary steps” to rebuild the nation’s economy and secure a better future.
