At least 15 vigilantes and local hunters have been killed in a fresh attack on Oke-Ode community, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Lens News gathered that the armed bandits invaded the town in the early hours of Sunday, opening fire on security volunteers who had gathered at their duty post. Several others were also injured, while an unspecified number of residents were abducted during the raid.
Eyewitnesses said the attack was sudden and devastating, with many of the victims identified as well-known community defenders. Their bodies were later taken to the local police station, while the injured were rushed to the General Hospital in Share for treatment.
The National President of Oke-Ode Community Development Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Ajala, condemned the killings and called on the state government to urgently boost security presence in the area.
Confirming the incident, Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the command is aware of the attack and awaiting a full situation report before issuing further updates.
