The Gombe State Government has warned that parents who fail to enrol their children in school will face prosecution under compulsory education laws.

LensNews confirmed that the warning came during the launch of the 2025/2026 school enrolment campaign at Amada, in Akko Local Government Area. The initiative is being led by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Speaking at the event, SUBEB Chairman Babaji Babadidi stressed that the state will no longer tolerate parents keeping children at home or sending them to hawk instead of attending school. He said violators will be taken to court to enforce compliance.

The campaign is aimed at drastically reducing the number of out-of-school children in Gombe, which officials say remains a challenge despite government investment in basic education.

Community leaders and education stakeholders at the event pledged to support the initiative, urging parents to prioritise their children’s future through education.
