President Donald Trump has intensified pressure on the U.S. Justice Department to file charges against his political opponents, escalating concerns over the politicisation of law enforcement.

LensNews confirmed that Trump, in a series of social media posts, demanded that Attorney General Pam Bondi act swiftly, accusing prosecutors of dragging their feet. He named California Senator Adam Schiff and New York Attorney General Letitia James among those he believes should face prosecution.

The pressure campaign comes after the resignation of Erik Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, who reportedly resisted filing charges against James due to lack of evidence. Trump has since nominated Lindsey Halligan, a lawyer with close ties to his administration, to replace Siebert.

Critics argue that the president’s push represents a dangerous breach of the Justice Department’s independence. Civil liberties groups and political opponents warned that Trump’s actions risk weaponising prosecutorial powers against perceived enemies, undermining the integrity of the American justice system.

The White House has yet to release an official statement, but Trump’s allies insist that his demands reflect a need for accountability and fairness in the application of the law.
