The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced the use of drones to monitor traffic flow and boost security surveillance across the state.
LensNews confirmed that the innovation, unveiled by LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki, is aimed at providing real-time aerial coverage of Lagos roads. The drones will help the agency respond faster to congestion, accidents, emergencies, and traffic violations.
Bakare-Oki explained that the move represents a deliberate shift from traditional, manual enforcement to digital and intelligence-driven operations. He said the technology would enhance efficiency, reduce delays in response, and improve coordination among officers on the ground.
The deployment is in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, which prioritises the use of technology and innovation to improve urban management and public services.
LASTMA assured residents that all drone operations will comply with ethical standards, privacy rules, and regulatory guidelines to protect public trust. Officials said the technology will also support emergency response, help reduce travel time, minimise road accidents, and strengthen overall traffic discipline.
