The Lagos State Police Command has blown the lid off a strange royal drama that has been brewing in the city. A man who paraded himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” complete with a controversial installation ceremony, has now confessed that the entire coronation was a fraudulent scheme.

According to police reports, the suspect, whose name has now been revealed as Ifeanyi Okeke, admitted during interrogation that he orchestrated the bogus title to defraud unsuspecting people under the guise of royalty. Investigators say he collected money from individuals who believed the title was legitimate, offering them favors and influence in return.

The fake installation, which went viral on social media earlier this year, sparked debates across Nigeria as many questioned the existence of such a throne in Lagos. Traditional leaders in the state had quickly distanced themselves, dismissing the “Obi of Lagos” as an impostor.

Confirming the breakthrough, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, told journalists that the suspect will be charged in court for impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence. He urged Nigerians to be wary of fraudsters exploiting culture and tradition for personal gain.

Meanwhile, Lens News gathered that residents in areas where the man operated expressed relief over his arrest. “He was parading himself like a king, deceiving people. At least the truth is out now,” one eyewitness said.

The police have assured that further investigations are ongoing to trace his accomplices and recover funds extorted during the fake reign.
