There was high drama in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, as police officers swooped in to arrest a 65-year-old man, Engr. Chibuike Azubike, who had declared himself the “Obi of Lagos.”

Lens News gathered that Azubike, an indigene of Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ideato North LGA of Imo State, was set to hold an elaborate unveiling of a supposed N1.5 billion “Obi of Lagos” palace at Apple Hall on Saturday, September 13.

But before the fanfare could begin, the Lagos State Police Command, acting on intelligence, sealed off the venue and took Azubike into custody alongside three alleged accomplices: Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41).

According to police reports, the suspects were planning an unlawful installation ceremony capable of misleading the public and disturbing public peace. Tactical squads, Eko Strike Force, and regular police officers were deployed to foil the event.

The Commissioner of Police confirmed that the suspects are being held at the State Command Headquarters in Ikeja while investigations continue. If found culpable, they will be charged in court.

The incident has sparked heated conversation across Lagos, with many questioning how far impostors are willing to go to create fake titles in a state already rich with its own traditional institutions.

For now, the self-styled “Obi of Lagos” will be answering tough questions from security operatives instead of receiving royal homage.
