The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, join other voices across the globe in commemorating the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration.
In a personal statement by Hon. Gufwan, obtained by LENS.NG, he stated, “Today, I stand with unwavering conviction to celebrate the strength, determination, and extraordinary contributions of women with disabilities in Nigeria. Women who have defied the odds, broken barriers, and rewritten the narratives imposed by a society that too often underestimates their capabilities.”
Gufwan directly addressed women with disabilities, “To every woman with a disability, your courage is a force, your determination is a revolution, and your voice is shaping a more inclusive Nigeria. You are not just participants in the fight for inclusion; you are leading it. Your strength is the foundation upon which the future of equity, dignity, and opportunity for persons with disabilities will be built.”
The Executive Secretary specifically honoured Nike Abimbola, a distinguished advocate whose work has elevated disability issues to global prominence.

“To all women with disabilities, know this: your dreams are valid, your potential is limitless, and your impact is undeniable. The world must see you, hear you, and respect you. And as long as I serve as the Executive Secretary of this Commission, I will stand by you, fight for you, and celebrate you. Together, we will build a Nigeria that truly belongs to all of us,” Gufwan concluded.
