Surgeons in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, have successfully removed 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and 2 pens from the stomach of a 40-year-old man in what doctors described as a highly unusual case.

Lens News gathered that the patient was admitted to Devnandani Hospital with severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and weakness. Scans revealed dozens of foreign objects lodged in his digestive tract.

Initial endoscopic attempts failed, leading to a five-hour surgery led by Dr. Shyam Kumar, during which all 50 items were extracted.

Hospital officials disclosed that the man had recently been at a de-addiction centre and began swallowing the objects after reportedly protesting against food served there.

Doctors suspect he may be suffering from a psychiatric disorder such as pica or compulsive ingestion disorder and have recommended psychological treatment after his recovery.
