Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says he will withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if a younger aspirant emerges as the flag bearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Lens News reports that Atiku made this known in an interview with BBC Hausa, where he stressed that his political ambition would not stand in the way of younger Nigerians who are prepared to lead.
He explained that if a younger, vibrant and widely acceptable candidate wins the ADC ticket, he will step aside and give his full support.
Atiku, who recently aligned with the ADC, said his focus for now is on helping to build the party’s structure nationwide while leaving the door open on whether he will personally contest.
He urged young people to get more involved in politics, describing youth participation as critical to Nigeria’s democratic future.
